Ana Roš – After the Rain the Sun Always Comes
In this episode, we speak with Ana Roš. A self-taught cook, Ana is a chef who expresses the seasons, her region, her character and her femininity through her cooking. She’s the chef and owner of Hiša Franko, a 2 Michelin star restaurant located in Slovenia, and one of the leading restaurants in the world. In 2017, she was awarded the world’s best female chef by Restaurant magazine. And in 2021, her restaurant was awarded the 21st best in the world by the 50 best restaurants list. In the same year, Ana ranked seventh in the Best Chef Awards list as the only woman in the top 10. Because of her work, chef Ana Roš was named the ambassador of gastronomic tourism at the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).

Association Welcomes New Ambassador for Ecuador
This week, the World Food Travel Association welcomed Nicolás Perez as an ambassador of the Association in Ecuador.

Nicolás is an experienced leader with a demonstrated history of working in the publishing industry.  He is an active participant in the development of Ecuador’s culinary culture through the stewardship of food journalism in El Universo, the country’s largest newspaper. He has been involved in local gastronomy for more than a decade since being an initial member of the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs local chapter. 

Nicolás is the founder of Ecuador FoodTrip, which is in the startup phase, where he oversees every aspect of strategy, product, and marketing.

With WFTA, Nicolás hit the ground running, holding our first Round Table for Food Tourism in Ecuador just yesterday.

World Food Travel Day 2022
As you may know (and if you don’t, welcome aboard!), this is our fourth year celebrating World Food Travel Day. It’s a day that celebrates traveling to experience our wonderful world’s many culinary cultures. It’s aimed at food-loving travelers, as well as the world’s travel and hospitality industries, and anyone with a passion for food or travel (or both) is welcome to join!

Food is something we share sometimes at home around the table with family, or even with travel buddies in a new place. Culture is an essential part of travel, and is an experience shared by fellow travelers. Stories and food are similar in that way, something meant to be shared with others. In that same spirit, April 18 is a way to share stories of meals we have loved and food and beverage that we have experienced during our travels.

Interview with Aashi Vel
Bicultural from birth, from a Northern Indian father and a mother from the south of India, Aashi Vel was immersed in a mixture of flavors at an early age, and as such, developed a strong "taste" for gastronomy early in life. She remembers many meals spent with her family where everyone wondered what they would eat the following night. Through her travels, Aashi was able to discover many culinary cultures, but it is her mother's dishes that remain and will always remain engraved in her memory and taste buds.

Every year on April 18th we celebrate World Food Travel Day. We invite food-loving travelers, as well as the world’s travel and hospitality industries, to join in and celebrate World Food Travel Day together. World Food Travel Day celebrates the reason to travel to experience our world’s culinary cultures. The Day first launched in 2019 and is designed to bring awareness to both consumers and trade, and supports our Association’s mission – to preserve and promote culinary cultures through hospitality and tourism.
